The Purple Majesty Millet, 'Pennisetum glaucum', is a beautiful cornlike plant with deep purple foliage, stems and flower plumes. This plant grows 4 to 5 feet tall with cattail-like flower plumes that are 12-14 inchs in length. This is an outstanding ornamental well worth growing even if it is an annual. Place in a well-drained, sunny site. Sunlight strengthens the purple color. Birds love the seed too! The young plants are green and the stem and mid-rib of the foliage first turn purple after about the 8 leaf stage.
